♠History:
The daughter of a prostitute from Xana and God knows what kind of man, Papilio was left in the hands of the doctor who birthed her in Ashbriar when her mother fled from her hometown and the apparent problems she wanted to escape. The mother died soon after a difficult birth and the doctor became the girl's surrogate father, too taken with her to cast her out.

Left with a birthmark over her right eye, Papilio was not shunned by the other children she played with in the streets, but rather mercilessly teased in the way children often are, and decided to right the matter with her own five year old hands. However, a five year old that knows nothing about a doctor's ointments and medicines can do more damage than good, and, though naively only trying to make herself look less 'weird', she ended up scarring her face and blinding herself in the same eye. After several years of learning to live with herself, she grew tired of the stares and snickers behind hands and started wearing a mask to cover her face completely.

Papilio, determined to one day right the wrong that she inflicted upon herself so that she might show her face to the world without shame, obediently and carefully followed her father's every footstep, and shadowed him around within Ashbriar and out to tribes in need of less accessible medicines, and finding quite early on that she had a knack for healing, convincing herself that she must have some kind of magic flowing in her veins. Whilst not deluded in this fact, it caused her to grow up yearning for Arcania and the scholars living there; the promise of knowledge, and someone to teach her to use her magic to heal. However, the total lack of money prevents this dream from coming true, and Papilio frugally collects every spare coin she can get her hands on in the small hope that one day she might move to the city to find what she's looking for.

When she isn't helping her father as an apprentice and nurse, she's outside Ashbriar collecting all kinds of herbs and plants which she mixes as medicines for her father, and also in experimentation for her own needs; she sells poultices, woven charms and other little concoctions for things like fertility, luck and good health. (Of course, the few coppers she gains from this go to her hidden Arcania fund.)


♠Personality:
With her mask, Papilio has a persistent fighting spirit and is confident in herself, walking with her head held high at all times, though she is still a reasonably quiet girl who tends to keep to herself mostly due to circumstance rather than her own will. She refuses to take her mask off in front of anyone but her father and she holds her scars like shields— invisible ones, but ones that strengthen her heart all the same— and tries to concentrate on working hard and achieving her dream. Though desperate to make friends other than the father she adores, Papilio has grown shy and wary over the years and can sometimes come across as rather standoffish (due to her own intrinsic personality traits rather than anything else), and can easily scare people away because of this as well as her blank mask— apparently people don't really like not being able to see your face. Give her a chance though and it will be quickly realised that she is a generally nice person who is always keen to help a person in need— also, that under that mask, she's always trying to smile.

○Lio has a dream that her real father was some kind of noble and will one day find her and send her away to study in Arcania. Suffice to say this is incredibly unlikely, but a girl can dream.
○She cuts her own hair, and likes to keep it long because that's what the doctor says her mother's was like.
○She loves dogs and really really really wants to keep one as a pet, but has yet to ask her father about it.
○Bandits terrify her, though the furious traders at market who tell her to move her wares away from them get nothing but blank stares and an upturned nose.
○She likes clothes that don't show her body shape too much (really, she just doesn't want to show how small her breasts are), though she likes dresses and skirts and floating material.
○Even though cleanliness is one of her top priorities, you'll often find her with dirty feet from having run around in the fields and countryside outside Ashbriar with nothing on them.
